FAQ’S – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a load?
Our single loads are approximately 1.2 cubic metres of just loose quality timber. Our loads are delivered in a purpose made tipping vehicle in which you will find no wheel arches, tool boxes, spare tyres or any build up of deposits denying you of your logs. Today logs are delivered in many different pick up trucks. Double cab pick ups are becoming particularly popular as a delivery vehicle. The cubic capacity of most double cabs is between 0.6 and 0.8 cubic metres. So when ordering logs be sure to ask for the cubic capacity of the logs you will receive.
Is the wood dry?
The question that should be asked is; “is the wood seasoned?” Seasoning is very important to displace internal moisture. Once wood is seasoned (air dried) rain water will do it no harm. Seasoning is the natural process whereby cord wood is exposed to the elements. Short term barn storing of green timber will not replace the seasoning process. It may appear to be dry but the dangerous internal moisture in timber is what causes deposits to build up in your chimney which can potentially cause chimney fires.
What do you get in a bulk bag?
Our bulk bags are sold as a one tonne capacity bulk bag (this is a description of the bag not the weight of the logs supplied.) The cubic capacity of timber delivered in our bulk bags equates to approximately 1 cubic metre. Bulk bags are an excellent and convenient way to receive logs. The bulk bags are yours to keep and are perfect for recycling garden waste.
Information on Beech Logs:
Beech logs have many excellent properties to make them a great choice for your fire. The high density of beech logs will make them great for us in any fire. The higher calorific?value (due to the high density) means you will need less logs.
Beech logs are a great allrounder. They burn for a medium to long amount of time, and they don’t produce sparks which can be dangerous. They provide a tall flame and hot embers once the flame resides. A burning blend of beech with ash is an excellent way to manage your fire.
Beech also creates less ash than other fire woods.
Please Note: The ratio of Ash/Beech within our Premium Hardwood mix loads can vary between each load.
